Is This Enough?
When is it ever enough? Is your it status-related like income, bank account, job title, respect of others, even your position at church? Is your it appearance-related like diet, exercise, make up, a closet full of clothes that make you look thinner, younger or sexier, and don’t forget the shoes? The it we’re chasing may even shift over time depending on circumstances and people around us. It that a fair observation?
A Prickly Reminder
We spend so much time searching for our purpose, our calling and a book that will tell us how to do it. Then there’s the perfect outfit, the right shade of lipstick, the perfect vacation spot or whatever it is we think we want or need at the time. It takes over our focus for the moment until we move on to the next ME thing. How much time do we spend searching for want we truly need?
Committed and Complete
Yes, I fall into the comparison trap chickening out of posting something on Facebook, starting a Pinterest board, or anything else that could expose my ineptness. Then, I go into the not-good-enough cave for a couple of weeks (or months) until the cycle starts all over again. This keeps me just short of commitment. Incomplete.
Making Time for the Good Stuff
We need to prune away the excess to find what God has waiting for us to access. The dead weight, the no-longer-useful, the withered, it all has to go. Make time for a sabbath margin.
No Complaints in This Grateful Heart
By watching my father, I learned that we can face overwhelming life events with courage and strength, that even without money we can be generous, that in Christ we can control our actions and attitude, and that love endures.
Practice Makes Perfect
Get into your bible and spend time talking to God in prayer. It is in the power of the Holy Spirit, living inside of you, that you will begin to understand what God has for you (John 14:26). In this truth you can confident.
Heart Work
Heart work. That’s what my friend calls it when we allow the power of the Holy Spirit to change us. That doesn’t happen naturally. We like to hold on to things, even if what we’re holding is heavy.
Choose Power Over Rejection
My first memory of feeling humiliated and rejected was in second grade when Sr. Julie Ann yelled at me, “SCATTER BRAIN! SCATTER BRAIN! SCATTER BRAIN!” and with the eyes of all my classmates on me as I returned to my seat, across a classroom that seemed the size of a football field. The sting of embarrassment filling every part of me, burning my seven-year-old cheeks red.
What Could Happen?
Just suppose, if you are not a believer and today you decided to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. What could happen?
